SUPPORT THE CENTER — VOLUNTEER

Do you like kids? Are you looking for a way to make a difference? Are you curious, flexible and willing to help? The Children's Center offers many ways for volunteers to help little kids with big problems.

Provide Child Care while Parents Attend Training

We will be offering a 5-week caregiver education series for caregivers of children newly diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  In order for them to attend, we need to offer child care.  The kids range in age from 8 months to 10 years, most around 3-4 years old.  Some of the children  have autism.  Help is needed for the following days and times.

Tuesday, June 24, 4:15 pm - 8:00 pm

Tuesday, July 1, 4:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Tuesday, July 8, 4:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Tuesday, July 15, 4:45 - 8:00 pm

Tuesday, July 22, 4:45 - 8:00 pm

For more information on this project or to sign up as a volunteer, please contact Lori Krasny at (801) 582-5534 or lkrasny@tccslc.org.

Volunteer in a Therapeutic Preschool Classrom

The Children's Center needs you to assist our staff in our activity therapy groups. We are a treatment facility for emotionally and behaviorally difficult children, ages 2-6. We can use your help either one morning (9am - 12pm) or one afternoon (12-3:15) each week. You would work side-by-side with our trained staff, learning therapeutic techniques while providing positive role models for the children.

You will love volunteering at The Children’s Center!  You will have fun playing with the children and you will learn a lot about compassion, good parenting, remaining positive and supportive, and the amazing resilience of the human spirit.  Normally people volunteer once a week for a three hour session, but we can be flexible to some degree.  We do hope that you can commit to come for at least 30 hours total.  We work with a lot of children who suffer from reactive attachment disorders and it is better if they have a chance to get to know our volunteers over a period of time.

Before you join the class, you need to attend a volunteer orientation (see schedule below).  Please call to let us know you are coming and bring your driver’s license to the volunteer orientation.  We need to attach a copy of your driver’s license to the background screening application we send to the Department of Human Services (our licensing agency).

If you have questions, please call Penney Gregersen, the Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator at The Children’s Center (801-582-5534 or 801-966-4251).
