This one-day workshop focuses on children ages 4-8 years of age with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) who are working on developing rich levels of interaction, two way communication and social skills. The model for this relationship-based approach to intervention is the P.L.A.Y. Project, a unique, community based autism training and early intervention program. P.L.A.Y. Project is based on the developmental theories of Stanley Greenspan, MD - the DIR model and "Floortime". Individuals will learn methods to help children improve social skills through the use of relationship-based interventions, social stories, play dates, and systematic analysis of social deficits. Characteristics of a supportive educational program for elementary children with ASD will be discussed.
