Training PROGRAMS — TRAUMA SEMINAR

Protecting Families with Young Children:

Trauma Awareness Seminar

For reporters, editors, producers, general managers, journalists and publishers.

The Children’s Center, in partnership with Primary Children’s Medical Center, provided an exclusive seminar on trauma* on August 24, 2010. Professional journalists, are uniquely positioned to protect and educate our youngest community members during traumatic events. Since September 11, trauma experts have raised awareness about the impact traumatic events can have on children and the media has been advised on the importance of providing families with trauma-minimizing tools. This seminar explored existing and new resources for media in the area of trauma.

The goals of the seminar were to add value to the important work done by the media by sharing the latest statistics and data on the effects of trauma, local trauma resources, and how journalists can play a critical role in mitigating the impact of traumatic events.

The information presented at the seminar is available by clicking on the links below. A video taping of the event will be forthcoming.

In 2009, The Children’s Center became a member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, whose mission is to improve the quality, effectiveness and availability of services for children and families who experience traumatic events.
